Tom Moody

Tom’s practice focuses on business formations, debt and equity financing transactions, incentive equity compensation for executives and employees, and business purchases and sales. Tom brings deep experience with capital formation and strategies for using investment capital to grow companies successfully. Tom began his legal career in 1989 at the Burlington, Vermont law firm Downs Rachlin Martin. In 2022, Tom created Moody Advisors. Tom served as Chair of the Business Association Section of the Vermont Bar Association for many years, and in that role, participated in the drafting of many business-related Vermont laws. Tom has played a role in several local organizations as a founder, board member, and other capacities. These organizations include the Dudley Fund, a community-oriented venture capital fund created in 2021 to assist early-stage Vermont businesses and create new job opportunities for Vermonters; the Bank of Burlington, an organization that will be our area’s only bank owned primarily by Vermonters; the Green Mountain Bicycle Club; and the Richard Tom Foundation, a foundation with a mission of bike safety advocacy. Tom is an avid sailor, skier, and cyclist.

Jerry’s practice focuses on advising startups, serving as outside counsel to small-to-medium-size businesses, assisting businesses through mergers and acquisitions, and counseling investors on forming and managing special purpose investment vehicles and private funds. He is committed to providing timely and tailored legal services that help his clients achieve their goals. Prior to joining Moody Advisors, Jerry worked for another Burlington-based law firm. Jerry is a graduate of Saint Michael’s College and Vermont Law and Graduate School. When not working, Jerry enjoys spending time with family and enjoying the outdoors through skiing, hiking, and biking.

Alisa is a Senior Corporate Paralegal with diverse experience with mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and compliance. She has an extensive background working with start-ups, late-stage companies, and venture capital. She’s assisted with a wide variety of general corporate and transactional matters, ranging from entity formation and structuring to equity or debt financings and mergers and acquisitions. She has maintained corporate governance for companies and their subsidiaries across a broad range of business sectors, including entertainment, real estate, technology, sports, fashion, food, beverage, and manufacturing.

Bethany graduated from UVM’s Sustainable-Innovation MBA Program in 2022, after spending nearly 20 years in the non-profit behavioral healthcare sector working with individuals recovering from addiction, mental health crises, and homelessness. Before obtaining her MBA, Bethany served as Regional Director of Administration and Operations for Phoenix House New England Vermont RISE Programs and currently serves on the board of directors for The Vermont Association of Mental Health and Addiction Recovery. She is a compulsive connector who believes business can and should be a force for good.
